Brief Description:  Install Gas Tanks and Build Braces

Got the tank braces built today. Started on the horizontal one and cut the supplied tubing to length. I then flattened the ends in my big vice. This worked very well except that the edges cracked from the flattening stress. In Photo 2 you can see where I welded the edges on the horizontal brace. No big deal

The brace at an angle (brace 2) was built in 3 pieces. I got some 1" wide x 3/16 steel stock and drilled and cut to about 4" long each. I then heated and bent till they pointed at each other from their mounting points (the tank and the top pilot side tail boom bolt. I then cut slits in each end of th tubing to slide over these new fittings. After eveything was in place I tacked the tubing to the fittings. I did the final welding on the bench. Now off to power coat.

I have started trying to get the protective film off the bubble. It appears to me that they sprayed it on too thin. I am having to scrape it off one fingernail width at a time. Any ideas anyone.
