Brief Description:  Install Transmission

Finally got the support tubes back from powder coating, after finishing up the welding on them. I enlisted the help of Steve and his son Sam to do the install. This procedure is really a no brainer after talking with Bobby Parker at OshKosh. You may read in other blogs about alignment problems and preparations, but very little can actually be done.

The transmission bolts down to the frame and it would take a hydraulic jack to move it to any other alignment position. Just bolting it down brought it to within a few tenths of a degree on my FAA calibrated digital level. I just don't believe that you need to be any closer than that, even if you could "adjust it".

Don't forget to have the pylon supports installed at the bottom as you lower the transmission into place. It is not possible to install the supports with the transmission fully down. I will be drilling out the tops of the supports tomorrow.

I also attached the control rods just to see what they looked like. It appears that the forward rod (pitch rod?) may be too long. Will need to get into the rigging manual a little deeper to confirm. I had to retap both ends of the control rods so that the rod ends would go all the way down.

On another note, the guys at MGL Avionics are bringing out voice regognition for the system. How great is that?
