Day 1 of a two day golf tournament, so not much done on the ship.
Sticking with my "let's build it fast" theory. I decided to make an extension for the selector shaft instead of making a recessed box. I guess this is only faster if you have a lathe. I drilled the valve end of the extension for a tight fit on the selector shaft. Then I drilled two holes through both. The first hole is for a roll pin the second is for the safety wire. I decided that saftety wire was better than two roll pins. The safety wire goes through the middle of the roll pin.
At the handle end I had to machine a taper and file a flat for the handle to slide on. For those who want to do it this way the taper is 2 degrees. I simply set the compound at 2 deg and used it for the cut. The flat was hand filed to match the taper. A test fit showed excellent wedging together of the two pieces, they were actually pretty hard to take apart.
Photo 2 shows the final assembly. No teflon tape here.
