Brief Description:  Flight with Mike Seager

Drove up to Veronica to fly with Mike Seager in the factory RV-10 410RV. Did two flights for at toal of 2.7 hours and 9 takeoffs and landings.

It is very different from my -6A on takeoff and landing, especially landing. The -6 is a little fighter aircraft, you can slam it around and make any landing look good. The -10 is still definately a RV, but it is heavier and requires some discipline on the landing approach and pattern. It does not slow down quickly, but with power on it climes better than the -6 so getting to and holding altitudes require more attention. All the takeoffs and landings were safe and Ok, just not right with the numbers. When done right, it is easy to land. When on the ground, the back pressure to keep the nose up as long as possible is a whole bunch, almost a two handed job. Same on takeoff, once it lifts, it is much nicer once you get the trim right. The trim is an essential part of flying this aircraft in the pattern. .

The most amazing differenct to me was in the throttle, mixture and prop controls. The stroke on the -10 seems aboult half that of the -6, so the instinctive pulls and pushes were way off. The slow response of the engine instrument in the prototype did not help. I would set RPM for 1800 and it would be 1950, bring it back and it would be 1500. Never got the feel of the throttle of prop.

Very worthwile experience. Don't try to fly your -10 without it!
