Brief Description:  Assemble door system

Continued on Plane Around/Vans door system. Finally figured out how to put it together, it is easy. Had to work on the Vans door handle, the push button started sticking, so took apart and found a small burr. Also discovered I used 8/32 nutplates on the handle rather than 10/32. Fixed both after finding some 3/32 round head rivets (for once Vans was close on rivets, you need 8, the kit had 11) I have had since I was 16 years old and riveting control line speed airplane aluminum wings together. 50 year old rivets work just fine.

Assembled system and it moved very well. The upper arm hit the arm pocket in the door and trimming as the instructions said, was not enough. Cut as slot in the corner to get clearance.

Marked the pins and trimed 3/4" further back per the instructions. Had to go and buy a 5/16X24 tap to tap the pins. Glued the magnets in the Plane Around pins with JB weld. Tapped the pins and assembled. Sanded off the end of the pins until they clocked right when assembled. Rather than depend on lock-tite, I used JB weld on the threads of the connector when assembling the pins and pushrods.

Built up the cutout in the arm pocket with some clay and glassed with 2 layers.

Trimmed the Plane Around guides to fit. Put in rear pin. It is too long. Door handle in open it sticks out of the guide by 3/4", and 2 3/4 when closed. Checked front, same story. Well, at least too long. Checked Plane Around instructions, can't find out where I went wrong. Time to quit.
