Brief Description:  More Stab Covering, and Engine Mount

Life has conspired against the project over the past few weeks, but I was finally able to get back out to the shop this afternoon. When covering, I have learned, its important to keep a bunch of other, small tasks at the ready. The covering is iterative, with many required breaks for the glue to tack, or dry, or whatever. If you skip these breaks, you just ladel-on frustration as the ceconite swims around and refuses to stick. I'm finally getting the feel for the timing, now, and the taping of this last stab was the smoothest, yet. I still have no idea how on earth I'm going to handle the huge wings. Baby steps.

Finished shrinking the tape on the first stab, and taped-up the other. Its a tedious process, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.

The 'extra task' I tackled during drying breaks on the stab was assembly of the shelf that the Rotax 912 engine will sit upon. I had received two incorrect parts with the original kit [for the Rotax 582 installation, instead], and just got the replacements last week. Thanks, KIM! This installation was a little bit zany due to the inclusion of a bunch of fat washers to dampen vibration to the airframe [I assume] and take-up grip space on the AN hardware. If you haven't used AN hardware before, you might not realize that there are strict rules about the threaded portion of the bolts not taking any load. The non-threaded portion, which carries the load, is called the 'grip' and only a short segment of threads protrude at the end. Sometimes, depending up on the native widths of the materials in use, it is necessary to add a few washers to a bolt in order to take-up some additional grip before securing with a nut. As with everything in airplane construction, there are rules about how many washers may be utilized in this way, as well as how many threads can/not show on the far side of the bolt. Anyway, this installation required some washer gymnastics, all explained pretty clearly in the instructions.
