Brief Description: Cut flap skins to size, drilled hinges
I cut the flap skins the same way I did the ailerons – using my band saw and a support block within the flap skin. Make sure if you use this method you cut fat of the line and file back to the line. I used a Dremel tool with cutting wheel to make the other flap skin cuts.
My 13-yr old son Adam drilled all the holes for the hinges for the flaps and ailerons using the jig I made for the elevator hinges.
I notice the rib holes were very unique dimensions and would have taken quite a time to transfer from the drawings to the rib skins. Therefore I took a short-cut and made a cardboard hole template by transferring the hole measurements from the full scale print to the cardboard. I then center-punched through the template. This worked very well and I didn’t have to measure a single hole for the flap ribs. There is a difference between the top and bottom rivets, so you need to make two patterns.
