Brief Description:  Completed Elevator Yoke

Primed and painted elevator yoke. Wanted to ensure the holes that were drilled in the steel yoke were re-primed and painted before riveting elevator root ribs.

While paint dried I also made a drilling jig for the piano hinges. This helped ensure the holes were drilled in a consistent way and without having to measure each hole - really sped up the drilling. To make this jig I screwed a small piece of scrap hinge to a piece of OSB. I then position the hinge half I want to drill up against the hinge half that is secured to the OSB. I only need to measure for one hole in on the hinge half I want to drill. Position the jig and clamp it down. Then I can drill all the holes without the need to measure each one. My securing the inch half to middle of a 4-foot piece of OSB it supports the hinge as I drill all the holes. (Worked great!)

Drilled middle and outboard elevator ribs for both elevators

Deburred elevator root rib holes and riveted to yoke.

Nice and square and each root rib in the same plane so there will be no twist in the elevators.

My wife Maria helped for 2.5 hrs in the afternoon. This was the first full day I was able to put in on the plane. Felt great, and got a lot done.
