I wasn't crazy about cutting a hole in the side of the airplane for a handle and also didn't like the looks of the linkage crossing on top of the side panels, so I decided to install an electric latch. I've been collaborating with fellow RV-9A builder Don Jones to design the electric (normal) and manual (backup or emergency) mechanism. Don welded an arm on the back side of the tube and I cut a hole in the bulkhead so the linear actuator could be located in the baggage compartment side panel. More work will be required to make the adjustments and cable release, but the basic unit is in place. Move on.
