Brief Description:  Fuel Tank Fittings

Over the past couple of days, I've been working on getting all of the fuel tank fittings fabricated and put in their proper places on the left tank - taking good notes so I can repeat it all on the right tank. I'm including pictures of the fuel filler neck clecoed in place, the fuel tank vent tube assembly, and the fuel tank outlet fitting. Of these fittings, the least understood by me was the vent tube assembly. The lower part of the blue fitting is what is outside the tank. It's been sanded and filed to a 4-degree angle to force air into the vent and put the tank under a slight positive pressure during flight. The fitting goes through the tank skin, where it's held in place by the larger AN nut (and Proseal, of course). Above that, the 1/4" vent tube is flared to attach to the top of the blue fitting with the connecting nut and sleeve. At the top of the tube, I filed it to a 45-degree angle so that in the event of a piece of debris covering the tube, it would be unlikely to cover the vent completely. Just to be sure, I drilled a couple of small holes horizontally through the tube at the very top. Now it's even more unlikely to become obstructed by a piece of debris. The consequences of blockage would be that the tank would fail to drain properly, resulting in fuel starvation. I'm awaiting delivery of my 60cc syringes that I'm going to use to apply the Proseal to the whole works. They should be delivered by tomorrow, and this tank should be finished by the end of the weekend.
