Brief Description:  Forward Skin Stiffeners

Today was another of those days with a thousand little projects, but the main thing I got accomplished was the forming and installation of the forward vertical skin stiffeners. Using my Avery crimping tool and having done this type of forming on the wingtips, I plunged ahead and came up with two very nice angles that fit into place nicely. I cut the first horizontal angle and cleceoed it in place. I'll share a builders tip here. Ready? To measure the length of a piece of standard angle to fit in a specific place - for example the horizontal angle that goes between the firewall and vertical stiffener below, take two shorter pieces of angle and nest them together, as if to stack them. Place the angle in the space you want to measure and slide the two pieces in a telescoping fashion to fit the space. Holding the two angles in place, remove them and measure the total distance. Cut the new piece to that measurement and voila - a perfect fit. This trick works anywhere you have to measure something to fit in a specific place. It's a poor man's telescoping gauge.
