Brief Description:  Right Aileron Complete

Finally was able to complete the right aileron today. I've been swamped at work, had visitors, etc., so I haven't been able to work on the plane much and it's been killing me! I should mention that this is the second right aileron I've built. The first was made of .016 aluminum, and I didn't like the way it looked or felt - too flimsy. This one turned out very nice. It's the first assembly where absoultely every piece was scratch-built. The washout is exactly as specified in the plans, and using .020 aluminum instead of the .016 made for a nice looking part - no bending or dimples. I'm using the piano hinge option instead of the flex hinge, so the thicker stock isn't a factor - might add a bit of weight, but I'm willing to live with that. The reasons I'm going with the piano hinges instead of the flex hinge are these: a.) Better control harmony. Control inputs will be roughly the same for pitch and roll. b.) The ability to take off the ailerons if so desired. While I'm assembling the wings, I'll be able to add the ailerons and not have them flopping around every time I move the wing. Also, if something gets damaged or needs attention, I can take the aileron off to fix it or allow access to what I need to work on without having to drill out 50 (or so) rivets.
