Brief Description: Elevator Nearing Completion (riveted)
The main construction portion of the elevator is complete. I am a little surprised how much work is involved in this thing. From the beginning, it looked fairly straightforward, but the horn fabrication and small parts involved in the horn assembly added a lot of build time. I don't mind - just an observation. I was really concerned about it being flat and straight, so I used the same ratchet-strap method to hold it down to my trued-up table frame, and it worked extremely well. I'm satisfied that there is no measurable (at least by my standards) twist in the elevator. Next I'll be adding the trim tab, and finishing up the rudder cutout. After it's fitted to the stabilizer, I'm going to build a small rack hanging from the garage ceiling to store it out of the way until final assembly. I'll be purchasing fiberglass tips and a trim servo kit soon to finish it up completely. I still need to add the rudder horn and fairing to finish up the empennage. I'm excited. I'm about to leave the first phase of construction and move to the wings. Now that's some serious buildin' there.
