Brief Description:  Paint Stripping

This block of time represents a couple of work sessions. While I'm waiting for a couple of tape items to come in for my wing covering, I've been stripping paint from some boot cowl pieces. The large boot cowl/firewall piece is my largest challenge, but the smaller boot cowl pieces that mount behind the large cowl piece has been the most frustrating. Long story short, cleaning the small pieces revealed how many little spider cracks are around bolt holes and other places. I have cut new pieces for all those smaller guys, but will have to fix what I've got for the firewall/ boot cowl piece. It has several small cracks at the firewall junction that were not visible while it was on the plane. The assembly is so expensive ($1500) that I've decided to use my metal working skills and build patches for the corners where the cracks are. I have plenty of scrap metal from my RV-6 project, so it's just a matter of investing the time to get it right. I'll probably get the cowl pieces fixed and primed before I get back to my wings. Just another little set of tasks to accomplish.....
