I purchased a strobe light adapter plate from cleveland aircraft supply to ease the installation of the suntail strobe. Without this plate that is blind riveted to the fiberglass it would be extermely difficult to get nuts nuts to the back of the fasteners on the inside tapered end of the fierglass rudder bottom.
The aluminum adapter plate is blind riveted to the fiberglass using CS4-4's. than the center hole is opened up with a drill bit followed by a dremel drum sander. I primed the aluminum adapter plate and riveted it in place. The suntail is then fastened to the aluminum plate using two 4-40 screws with 100 degree countersunk head. When install this permanantely i will try to get some locknuts on the inside too, but i think it would hold without.
One could easily fashion one of these adapter plates themselves from some scrap aluminium, but the price was right i though, at about $15...
