Brief Description:  Finish Elevator Trailing Edges

Now that the pro-seal has cured for about three days it was time to remove the clecos from the stiffener angle. The trailing edges of both elevators were perectly straight. I followed vans instructions for back-setting double flush rivets and began, using blue masking tape to hold the flush rivets in place while i flipped over and back set against my back riveting plate. I worked my way incrementally down the edge, monitoring for warping. These were AN426AD3-3.5 rivets and the shop head when back riveted fills the dimple nicely. Both elevators came out straight as an arrow and i am pretty happy with the results... better than the rudder.

After the rivets were set, there was still about 1/32" - 1/16" of the AEX wedge sticking aft beyond / betwen the skins. The manual says to file this down flush with the end of the skins. I started at with a couple different type files, but my patience got the best of me, so I took the orbital sander to it... Voila! a few passes and she was done. Polished it off with a file, then some maroon scotchbrite by hand. They are smooth and straight.

This marks the completion of the right elevator (except weights and mounting). Waiting on my replacement skit for the trim tab to complete the left elevator.
