Brief Description:  Rudder Trailing Edge Rivets

The Pro Seal in the trailing edge of the rudder has set up now for a few days. Tonight I riveted the "double-flush" rivets along the trailing edge.

Started by removing all the clecos and temporary aluminum angle. I manually ran a drill bit through the holes to clean out any excess sealant. Going to need to figure out how to clean my cleco's now.... I inserted an AN426AD3-3.5 rivet into each hole, taped the holes across with rivet tape and flipped over. I began to back set the rivets exactly how the Vans manual indicated - skip 10 rivets, skip 5 rivets, etc, and only driving them about half way - monitoring for warping along the way. I had no issues with this so I flipped the rudder over, switched to my flush rivet set and drove home the remaing rivets in the same fashion.

Basically i completed this task step by step as indicated in the manual and did not have any issues. The manual indicates a desirable tolerance of .100" or less of bowage or warping.... All said and done I would estimate mine at about 1/2 that.

I would say it was helpful that I practiced this task on the Vans practice project.
