Brief Description:  Catto Prop Arrives

After about a 3 month lead time, which was expected, my prop arrived from Catto Propellers. I this is a wood and glass composite two blade propeller with nickel plated leading edges. The nickel leading edge help protect from FOD and rain droplets.

Most RV'er's opt for Catto's three blade prop for it's looks and smoothness. I however prefer the look of the two blade better. Other benefits of the two blade are that it's a couple mph faster (more efficient), easier to remove the cowl, and about $1000 less expensive.

In talking with Craig Catto he did say the three blade smoother, but the two blade is still notably smoother than standard two blad metal production propellers. I've never been offended by the roughness of a two blade metal on a Cessna or Piper so Im thinking i'll be OK.

The three blade will provide better climb performance, but the 9A, even with a two blade, will still double the climb rate of the spam cans i'm flying now....

The only thing that concerns me is that it only weighs 13 lbs. Which is mostly good, except it moves the CG rearword, which is less desireable.
