Brief Description:  Install Dual Step(s) Kit and Misc As-Built.

Mom and Dad were in town this week to meet there new Grand Daughter. Dad and I managed to break free to the garage for a bit and install the external step kit.

The step design is robust and straight forward. Installing it though is a little more of a crap shoot. This required drilling 1.5" diamater holes in the exterior fuselage skin and interior floor ribs, as well as scalloping the flanges of the floor stiffeners. The holes then had to be coaxed larger to allow for the fillet weld on the step flange as well as positioning the step. The flange that meets the exterior of the fuselage is hand bent with mallet and vice over a series of trial and error fits until it is happely sitting flush agains the exterior skin.

I layed out the hole pattern on the step and through-drilled it to the fuselage skin, making sure to catch at least one row through the fuselage 902 vertical stiffener as well. The interior plastic block was drilled and bolted to the floor rib and holds the step penetration very securely.

I will not rivet these for now, as they will just get in the way.....

I also spent a couple hours this week as-builting the pregress of the QB fuse and cheking off the steps in the manual. This included drilling out and installing several bushings for wiring and plumbing.

Next step is to install the main landing gear weldments into the floor of the cockpit.
