Brief Description:  Left Wingtip Install

Installed the left wing fiberglass tip which was pretty straight forward. The trailing edge of the tip was trimmed for clearance at the aileron and aileron hinge bracket. Two aluminum ribs get riveted in place to create rigidity and shape aft of the rear spar. I primed both of these and the spanwise rib was also epoxied in place to elleviate any buckling of the fiberglass between the rivets.

I used clickbond fasteners in lieu of riveted nut plates for the wingtip screws to fasten to which probably saved a couple hours. In this application the clickbonds create a stronger tip for two reasons, one is that there is only one hole per fastener in lieu of three because there are no rivet holes and two the epoxy at the fastener reinforces the fiberglass.

I am a bit leary in this application of the clickbonds though because if perhaps one of the fasteners breaks loose from the wingtip, while the wingtip is installed, there will be no way to remove the screw fastener, as it will just rotate about itself with the clickbond inside.....
