Brief Description:  Prepare Flap Parts

I deburred all the parts for the wing ribs except the skins, which included the flap brackets, spacers, nose ribs, main ribs and spars. I also fabricated the FL-906A and FL-906C pieces.

The FL-906A angle was one of the more technical angles to fabricate thus far because just interpreting the 2-D drawings and laying it out in pen on the stock angle is tricky to visualize. Once that was done i took to the trusty hack-saw and finished off the tapered edges on the bench grinder deburring wheel.

The FL-906C spacer is very simple to fabricate with a set of tin snips. The challenge here is, to my knowledge there is no piece of material provided specifically for this purpose. Plans just say to make from AS3-025x1-1/4x2. I certainly couldn't find this piece so i did what Smitty done from reading up on his builders log which was to dig back through the pile of misc. pieces provided in the emp. kit. Since i dont have a dial caliper yet for determing the piece was exactly .025, (and not .020 or .030) I just found a sheet the same thickness of the adjacent nose rib to the spacer. You see 906C is esentially a shim for the 906A angle which rests on top the nose rib flange and shim... so, simple find a piece of equal thickness to the flange. Which can be done by feel.

Now that the parts are pretty much ready for assembly and match drill i pulled the old flap skins out from under the bed and started fitting things together. I finished out the day by drilling two sets of holes (one for right/left flaps) into my flat work surface. These will allow a cleco-d skin to be layed flat against the table.
