Brief Description:  Rivet Left Wing Top Skins

I was surprised by the amount we accomplished today. Along with the help of my beutiful bride and unborn child we managed to completeley rivet the top skins to the left wing. It certainly is nice to touch each hole for the last time.

The match-hole drilled kit does a damn good job at making things square. But, additionally, I clamped the front and rear spars to my wing jig. I used plumb bobs off each end of the wing to take out any twist. I ran fishing line spanwise off clecos down the front and rear spar to verify any sag or bowing. The rear spar bowed inward (down) about 1/8" at the center after clamping each end at the "no-twist" point. I couldnt figure a way to brace or align the rear spar at the center, my jig is not sturdy there. After a bit of contemplating I just grabbed at the rear spar and gave her a few yanks until it settled in where i liked it. I suppose this might let the clecos, ribs, and skins all marry up and a bit of persuading and massaging got it aligned. I noticed this on the leading edge skins too... a few raps with the mallet on each rib settled them into their happy place where i could feed the rivets through the holes. I monitored the wing throughout the riveting and everything stayed the same. (it was clamped down of course.) Near as i can tell there is maybe 1/32" of twist, but that is about the thickness of my plumb bob string line so it depends which side of the line i read.... I think she'll fly. (pun intended :))
