Brief Description:  Complete Vertical Stabilizer

Talked to Vans today regarding some lighting options and determined that nothing more was needed at this time in order to close up the vertical stabilizer or rudder.

I finished riveting the rear spar into the vertical stabilzer by riveting along the trailing edge of the skins and going perpindicular into the backside of the ribs (blind rivets into part VS707). Some of the rivets from the skin to the rear spar were difficult because of the proximity to adjacent rivets attaching the rear spar to the rear spar doubler plate. Just not enough room to come onto it square enough. I left out four rivets near the middle hinge that i will go back and get when I procure a "no-hole" yoke for those tight spaces.

I used my hand squeezer on all the flush rivets at the perimters. The hand squeezer was getting a bit jerky so i had to remove the drive pin and lubricate the binding parts, that fixed it right up.

(4/16/12 Update - No hole yoke arrived today so I took the vertical stabilizer down off the wall and riveted the 4 rivets near the middle hinge. I also decided to remove and replace about 6 rivets in the trailing edge of the vertical stabilizer that were not set real well due to proximity of adjacent AD4-rivets in the spar. I noticed an oblong hole in one of the rivets i removed so I drilled it out to #30 and placed an AD4 "Oops Rivet" into that hole. Vertical Stab is now officially complete)
