Brief Description:  Final selection of Piston (Wrist) Pins

Final selection of piston (wrist) pins. I have been trying for months to get a complete set of "new" wrist pins together. I had cleaned and inspected a set that came out of the low time 290 ground unit, and they checked out very nice with "fit" and Dye Penetrant, but I had know that it was recommended (at least for the O-435, same pistons as O-290), that the wrist pins be replaced at overhaul. My O-290-G was a low time engine, but I would have liked to had new pins. Anyway, I now have them, and they are cleaned and preserved in plastic bags, ready to install. I feel better!! Incidentally, I precision balanced the pins to a matching 246.7 grams. The heaviest was 248 before matching them. Marching was done by removing material from inside the pin, near the outer edge (not to interfere with the pin cap's fit. Not much, but just another example of the care to have this engine precision balanced throughout/on every component. This same attention to detail will be accomplished on the Crankshaft, Rods (and attaching nuts and bolts), Pistons and Rings.
