Brief Description:  Stubb Rudder No.2!

"So I picked up the replacement rudder skin from San Francisco 10 days ago and started to manufacture the rudder again. I marked out the dimensions and checked 3 times at least to see I had it right. It is still difficult to get the orientation right with these plans. One really has to interpret the plans carefully beofre being totally confident that you are tking metal from the correct side etc.

I did my first bend today as well which was something I was concerned about. I used a vice in the village next to our house at the local beer and soft drink shop. The old man gave me a hand and it worked out ok. It was about the requrie 5.2 degree bend so I was happy. I used 3 x 1 inch steel rods that I had cut to 6 inches in length from the local hardware. I taped the 3 rods around the bend line and turned the handle after checking the alignment carefully. It took a few goes and it finally yielded the right result. I will be buying more drinks there to keep up the vice access andwill have to show the man my resulting rudder.

So I cut and filed the metal. I marked the drill holes. on the drive horn assembly pieces. I clecoed them together and it looked like the plans pieces. I did the same to the rudder skin and assembled with clecoes after drilling to number 30 drill size.

Again I am awaiting a primer supplier. I have some hope on this front as I have made contact with an engineer who works at HK international airport who is tracking down a reliable source! Stand by on this one. I am consequently accumlating a few assemblies that require the priming and then final rivetting, Ailerons, flaps and the rudder.

I guess I can move on to the Rudervators now until I have the primer."
