Brief Description:  Right Stabilator - Skin

"Today I put the skin over the frame and clamped it down. I had marked centre lines along each rib soI could see when the CNC drilled holes in the skin were over the centre of each rib or frame member.

I had the skin unfolded so I could do one side first drilling and clecoing as I went. I started from the rear spar and worked forward and this seemed to work well. The skin secured into place and the bend around the leading edge positioned well.

I also used the right ruddervator hinge from the control that I made and wanted to use this on the stab, the other half of it. However they did not match up as I was missing 1 hinge fold not realising that They neded to be preserved at odd cut position when doing the initial hinge cuts. Thsi doesn't make sense but it will mean that I will have to order more hinge lengths from the USA. They are not heavy but they come in 6 foot lengths so awkward for shipping, Oh well I will probably pick them up on a san Francisco flight. Convenient!

I drilled both sides and also the hinge. It looks like a real part of an airplane now. It also gives a sense of the scale of the plane. It will be a aqueeze in my shed but I have plans to extend another covered area besides the shed to allow building of the fuselage under cover after I have built the wings in the shed. Step by step.

I will post my photos soon of the drilled and clecoed skin. The plans say to leave sections un rivetted until the piece is fitted to the fuselage. This means that I will prepare all the surfaces and have them primed and maybe rivet what bits I can to keep it together as possible."
