"Today I cut and filed the skin to size. I marked out the drill lines for the ribs and hinges. I drilled size 40 holes for all holes.I was 95 % done with the holes when my drill bit decided to snap. The down force I was holding on the drill was enough for the drill to bounce down onto the skin a couple of inches away from the hole I was drilling with the jagged drill bit and it marked the skin slightly. It should buff out but there is a slight dimple. If I was a perfectionist and had the Sonex factory in the same country I would replace the skin, the ribs and start again. But I dont, so after thinking about it over lunch having walked away in a cloud of concern I will see how it looks later on closer to painting process. It may even just be a small filler/bog job and paint over it and you will never know it was there. Disappointing as it was all going well. So I have continued to finish the piece upto size 30 holes ready for final deburring and priming etc.
It is now on the shelf. I am moving on the preparing the stub rudder for prming and assembly.
I prepared both left and right controls for priming and they are now completely assembled. they have been rivetted and I am happy with the results of the priming. These have been the better fo the pieces I have made due to the learning curve process. Making more sense now."
