Brief Description:  Y Additional Brace and tail box assembly

Today I made another bracket for the cross tie box that joins the side panel and the box. The plans only called for one instead of 2 and I am rpetty sure I only made the one so here is the second one, no problems took 15 mintues. I drilled it into place and clecoed ready for rivetting once primed. I have ordered more primer to be delivered so will finish that later in the week.

I then began the preparation for the Plans revised extra strengthening brace for the tail. It basically doubles the thickness of the tail post from previous plans. It is very strong with this piece. I measured and bent this thei required 5 degrees and then drilled the holes matched to sizse with the 2 other pieces of the tail.

I then positioned the vertiacl tail channel into place and drilled it into postion using the side panel pilot holes. This also involved drilling an angle bracket that locks this with the lower longerons and the upper longerons, making the tail end very strong. The rudder will attach to this by a hinge yet to be loacted and drilled.

I then fitted the upper cross tie 5 which is an angle solid aluminium instead of channel aluminium which contributes to the inbuilt strangthening of the tail box. This was positioned and clecloed and drill into place ready to take the tail web pieces and the bulkhead fittings after I locate the tailwheel positions and Y pieces.

I am trying to minimise the need to handle the whole fuselage and having to keep flipping it over and over to get access. It is working out ok.
