Brief Description:  Fitting wing root covers

Three covers need to be fitted between the wing root and fuselage. There is a plastic cuff between the windshield and the wing. A close out panel under the wing and above the door and plane to close the gap at inboard end of the flap.

I began with the door to wing close out panels. These parts were labeled left and right but they are not bent the same. What I mean is that yes one needs to be a mirror image of the other and that is generally correct. It is just that the coresponding bends are not in the same place between the left and right sides. The result was that the edge distance to the mounting holes in the bottom of wing was approximately 1/2 inch different between the two sides. On the side with the excess edge distance I trimmed the excess material so the edge distance is the same on the finished part. The photo shows the difference in the two parts once trimmed to equal edge distance.

The part with the smaller edge distance before trimming is on the left. You can see that the distance between the 90+ degree bend on the table and the shallow bend at thhe notch is very different.

For those that think I may have put the holes in the wrong place, they are already located in the inboard rib and you just use a hole finder to transfer them to the panel.

I didn't return the parts to RANS since we are on a time crunch with winter coming to get the plane finished this fall. Maybe some day I will purchase new panels and redo these.
