Brief Description: Nose Gear Wheel Mount Plate - Rejected Design
With the nose gear change some the need to create a new way of attaching the nose gear wheel to the nose gear rod. The original used a thin piece of aluminum that in some instances has shown stress cracks in the field. It attaches to the nose gear rod by way of machines (apparantly steel) piece that the rod slips into about 1 inch and the nose gear wheel fixture bolts to. I ran into some issues with this including the weight of the steel piece, my concern that only having 1 inch of the aluminum rod inside the steel piece was too weak, and also some concerns with my ability to properly bend this piece. After cutting it out on a bandsaw and cleaning up the raged edges (thanks fo the band saw), I ended up abandoning this piece. I liked the fact that it was 1/4" aluminum (thanks to a local steel supply store that sells aluminum metal remnants for $3/pound), so I moved on to another design.
