Brief Description:  Electric Flaps & Landing Gear Mounts

This morning I began by working on the electric flaps. I needed to rivet on all of the nutplates and rivet all of the componets together. I was able to pretty much assemble the whole thing on the bench, then install it in the fuselage. I still need to enlarge the holes on the side panel. They don't fit as good as they did when I first drilled them.

I am now at the point I was at before I started to prep and prime the latest batch of parts. Next I started the landing gear mounts. I have been thinking this would be a bear to work on, but it actually came together very well. I first needed to drill out the upper gear leg alignment bolts and clean up any burrs. I used plenty of boelube on the drill bit. The next task was to fit the mounts into the fuselage and make sure everything fit. I had to slightly file down one part of mount that interfered with the bottom angles. Everything else fit great. I than pulled out the mount and reamed all of the holels and did some prime touch-up on the exposed metal. I re-installed the mounts and inserted all of the bolts on the right mount. It was very tight reaching the nuts between the wing carry-through bulkhead, but I managed with a little help from some of the specialty tools I have been collecting. I use a washer holder and a nut holder to get them in place and used a ratchet to start the threads. This worked out very well. I torqued all of the nuts and then drilled and backdrilled the bolts to the lower longeron and out through the side skins. The right mount is done and I will pick up on the left one tomorrow.
