Brief Description:  Wheelpant Paint / Tail Gear Bolt / Builder Plate /

The right side wingtip is finally done with the color coating. Wow, what a job this was. No further paintwork is required; I'm letting it sit for a few days to cure better before using clearcoat on it.

Next, I used 400 grit paper to sand both the left and right wheelpants. Painted one side of each. These look good; no runs, so I'll be able to proceed with clearcoat once the final color coat is applied to the other side of each.

I then mounted the builder plate on the fuselage side. I have not yet riveted it, since I want to polish the skin underneath it; just left it cleco'd in place.

Next, the plans originally said to use SS hardware in any application involving titanium - the gear legs. Sonex LLC has recently issued a service bulletin requiring the replacement of the SS HW with regular AN cad-plated HW. There were some shear issues with the SS bolts. I had previously replaced the motor mount and main gear bolts, but not the tail. I replaced the bolt that resides inside the fuselage - man, was this a job; could not get the new bolt to insert cleanly. Finally removed tension from the gear leg and it went in just fine - duh.

Lastly, I cleco'd the aft skin in place. Don't know when I'll rivet, just to make sure I don't need access. First installed the two MS screws at the aft end of the skin; was easy to install them with the front side of the skin hanging down, allowing a wrench to be applied easily. Finished cleco'ing almost all the way to the front.

The aft skin fits UNDER the foreward skin which was already riveted in place except for the aft edge. I was able to bow the last few feet of the lower skin to get it inserted between the foreward skin and the first lower crosstie by the aft spar. Inserted cleco's and called it a day.
