Brief Description:  Install Fuel Tank

Mounted the aft fuel tank straps that do the majority of the holding, since the front fuse x-member holds the front of the tank, regardless of the front straps.

Once the straps were mounted, I riveted the glareshield to the fuselage.

I then installed the tank. Sonex says that once riveted, it makes it much harder to put in the tank; funny, they were right. Had to really add some "ooomph" to seat it completely.

I then made some initial checks for alignment, making sure the straps were positioned, etc., then cleco'd the upper firewall into position for the final "adjustments" being made as the fuel tank is strapped into position.

Getting the rear strap connected was very tedious, especially since you're draped over the spar tunnel in a very contortionist kind of way.

The specs call for an AN3-10A bolt to secure the straps. I used an AN3-14A, and drew the straps together. I then safety-wired the straps together, allowing me to remove the AN3-14A and put an AN3-12A in place. Drew that down, and safety wired it in an attempt to put in the as-called for AN3-10A. Even when drawn together, the AN3-10A was still just a tad too short, so I installed washers on the AN3-12A and left it at that. The tank doesn't move, the straps don't move when the tank is pushed up, and everything is aligned. Good to go.

Tried safety-wiring the front straps together, but got a bit too hasty with the safety-wire tool and broke the wire. It was getting late, so I called it a day.
