Brief Description:  Seat Pan Fabrication / Bending

Continued / almost finished with seat pan fabrication. Did final finish on the center seat belt fastener / elevator control rod clearance slot in the middle of the seat. Pic 1.

Using large hole saws, cut the three holes on each side of the seat pan to form the corners of the control stick cutouts. Material between the holes is removed. Large hole in pic 2 is 4.5" in diameter; two other holes are 3".

Removed center material from between the holes; rough cut with a sabre saw, then followed up with a Vixen file and finer-tooth files for a nice finish. Wrapped it up with a ScotchBrite pad.

Marked bend lines. The forward edge is 11 deg down, main seatback angle is 88 degrees. Not exactly there, but I can easily adjust now that the main bends are in place.

All that remains is to install piano hinge on the upper edge, front edge, and about 2" up from the main bend. The piano hinge serves as the secure mounting to the fuselage.
