Brief Description:  Finish Aft Lower Cabin Details

Very productive day.

First up was the installation of the nutplates to the center support channels to accomodate the "hat" section of channel that goes over the elevator control rod. Located, pilot drilled, dimpled, and riveted the nutplates to the center channels. Up-drilled the hat section to 11/64ths, test fit. All OK.

Proceeeded to rivet all the channels and the seat belt attach assembly and the upper cap outside of the aircraft - MUCH easier. Also riveted the idler pivot to the attach assy.

Proceeded to fit the complete assembly back in the cabin - perfect! A few cleco's from underneatch to position it all, then I was able to back above to cleco every other hole thru the lower cabin skin to the channels. Proceeded to rivet all. Lots of rivets.

Moved back underneath. Only a few rivets here - each end of the attach angle where it abuts the fuselage, plus the back side of the idler pivot.

Because of the tight quarters and the angled side attach angles, I had to drill-out about 6 out of 14 rivets because they failed the fingernail test. Oh well; at least I know it's right.

I was going to flip the fuselage over right side up and do the seat, but in checking the plans, there are several "parallel activities" that could be done in any order. One of these is attaching the motor mount. Since the firewall is at such an angle, I may try to mount the mount in its current orientation, since those lower mount bolts next to the gear leg can be a real nightmare (so I've heard).
