Brief Description:  Finished SNX-F11 / Fwd Part of Fwd Fuse

Finally a productive day!

Basically finished up the forward area of the forward fuselage. Still to do (on next plans page) is the bracing that goes on the floor behind the spar tunnel.

Riveted the firewall and floor stiffeners to each other. Glad I rechecked the plans - I had to dimple the aft clip for the floor stiffener where it rivets to the spar tunnel, so that it's flush inside the tunnel.

Once the stiffeners were in place, relocated the firewall (the lower lip fits between the lower crosstie and the lower fuse skin). Once that was cleco'd in place, it was time to rivet.

Riveted the lower skin in place - again, I'm glad I rechecked the plans, since there were about 10 holes on each side that don't get riveted until later.

The firewall presented some challenges - only because of the reduced distance between the rivets and the motor mount tabs. I used the slim Arrow riveter for this task. Even so, the last corner rivets provided a challenge. Made up a custom extra-angled wedge to allow the riveter to angle-in there.

Next up was riveting the side joints where the forward and aft fuse comes together. Pretty straight-forward.

Next, positioned the forward tunnel zee into position and cleco'd it. Riveted the flange that mounts to the floor, and riveted the clip on each end to the side skins. Then I started placing the flush rivets. I got about 6 in on the left side when I realized I was supposed to use CCC-44 rivets, and I was using CCC-42 - too short. So I drilled them out and replaced them.

Then I installed the AN-3 hardware for the fuselage splice plates and the lower motor mounts / lower cross-tie.

Just to keep things ready for the next plans page, I cleco'd the aft tunnel zee into position. In later assemblies, this gets some more holes in it, but not riveted until after the wings are rigged.
