Brief Description:  Lower Firewall Install

Yeah, it's been a few days. Let's see - Monday was the ex-band parents dinner, Tuesday was the Chapter board meeting, Wednesday we went out to dinner with #2 son and his girlfriend who came to visit, and Thursday we went to dinner again since it was their last day in Texas before returning to school. Whew!

Also on Monday (see above), I borrowed a 36" bending brake for the firewall and seat pan (Thanks, Don!). Used it to bend the 30 deg and 60 deg bends in the lower firewall. Made trial fit on the lower crosstie (fuse in the pics below is inverted, so it's the one on the top of the pic. Had to remove and re-bend it a bit, since it wasn't that sharp of an angle. Ensured that the sides were square and the fuse was level before progressing.

The firewall fit very nicely between the side rails of the fuselage. Had to re-trim the left side upper firewall clip near the upper crosstie (the bottom one in the pic) to help the firewall sit tightly against the rail. Had to "help" the fuse fit on the lower crosstie, since the firewall gets sandwiched between the lower crosstie and the bottom fwd fuse skin.

Drilled the firewall-to-upper crosstie pilot holes, then crawled under the fuselage to cleco it from behind. Test-fit the upper firewall assembly. Had to remove and trim the windshield strap a few times to fit nicely. All is straight and level.
