After Bob left, I took a short break, then went back out to install the wing doublers so they could be marked for cutting before I removed the wings.
Removed the clecos holding the root ribs in place and installed the left and right doublers. Made up a compass by cutting one down to size and safety-wiring a Sharpie marker to it. It worked!
The trick here is to mount the doublers 1/2" away from the fuselage, in the 2nd row of rivet holes. It doesn't belong here, but since material must be removed, this allows room to mark for it. Scribed cut lines on both sides, top and bottom. I will remove the doublers, trim to the line + 1/16", and rivet them in place. The 1/16" is to allow room for some filler strip to be installed.
Removed all 5 pins from the wings (3 in main spar, two in aft spar), and removed wings. It was a real bear to get those pins out!
I'm bushed. Long day.
