Brief Description:  Wing Rigging

The big day,

Started bright and early. Good thing, too; I think it was 103 today on our backporch.

Bob Carson (Sonex 1033) gracioiusly came over today to help with the rigging. He offered great advice, kept me centered on accuracy, and helped with just about everything. Thanks, Bob!

We slid the wings into the spar tunnel; first the right, then the left as per Sonex' recommendation. Problems immediately surfaced. Pushing the left wing in, we tore the right side fuselage side skin a bit; it was too tight for both spars to go thru the spar tunnel hole. Since we had removed the fwd wing attach angles, there was nothing to support it. I will stop-drill the crack and smooth it out; fortunately it will be covered by the wing.

Driving the centering pins in was a challenge as well; added points to the pins to allow driving-in of them. Once in, we added the aft spar tunnel and attach brackets.

Then we worked the aft spar carry-thru. Was difficult to fit to the wings; loosened the AN-3 HW holding the "sandwich" of the aft spar parts together allowed it to fit well. Removed the aft spar once done to finish drilling the shear angle holes and up-drilled to the final size. Also drilled-thru the 1/4" hole thru the side attach brackets.

Removed the aft spar tunnel again to drill the fwd wing attach brackets; replaced the aft tunnel parts and back-drilled, then step-drilled all holes up by 1/32" increments to the final 3/8" dimensions.
