Whether true or not, it sure feels like the left wing is progressing quicker than the right.
#2 Son returned to school in Arizona, so I was able to move the horizontal stab back into his room, clearing off the workbench. Moved the left wing skeleton onto the workbench. Squared it as per instructions, and removed wing twist by shimming blocks under the aft spar.
Marked centerlines on the ribs with a red ultrafine point Sharpie. I noticed on the right wing that the blue sharpie would sometimes be difficult to see - the blue almost looked like a shadow when trying to look thru the skin holes. Also, previously I had used the standard Sharpie to mark the centerlines, and I often was confused as to exactly where in the center of the rib I really was. The red ultrafine point solved both the visibility and the precision aspects.
First drilled and cleco'd the aft skin to the aft spar - this takes out the "bow" of the spar that is characteristic of the Sonex design. Then, working from the center #6 rib, I worked toward the main spar and outward drilling pilot holes into the ribs, and cleco'ing them together.
Stood the assembly up on edge on sawhorses to allow drilling the vertical stiffener for the left aileron bellcrank, attached to rib #9.
I was liberal with the cleco's. Now I need to up-drill most of the ribs to #30 to free up the cleco's for the other side of the wing (lower aft skin). The left wing has a wider root doubler piece that helps stiffen the wing where you climb up to get in the plane. This cannot be riveted until the wing has been rigged to the fuselage because it usually has to be trimmed. I may go ahead and up-drill that as well as the ribs just to get it out of the way.
