Brief Description:  Dimpled Rib Cleanup

Well, I learned a lot tonight.

I had previously drilled the LE ribs using the LE skin as a template, as we do with all parts on the Sonex. I left them at #40 as per suggestion from other builders - the dimpling process stretches them out quite a bit.

Remember - the LE skin is pilot drilled (actually, laser cut) to #40.

After dimpling, I noticed that where I dimpled the skin, I could push a rivet thru, albeit with slight pressure. I could not, however, push a rivet thru the dimpled LE rib hole.

Didn't think much about it.

Tonight, I was doing some deburr work on the dimpled LE rib holes - they seemed pretty rough. Since I was deburring anyway, I first up-drilled them to #30. Then it hit me. I don't know why, but for grins I tried an experiment on the upper side of the LE rib, since I had not yet dimpled that side, and the holes were still at #40 size.

I first deburred the #40 drilled hole, THEN dimpled it. Hmmm... very smooth result, and what do you know? the rivet would now push thru the hole with about the same force it takes for pushing it thru the skin. I was always used to not deburring until all hole work was done, so I never even considered it.
