Brief Description:  Elevator Control Arms / Bracing / Trim Tab

Fitted all elevator actuator arms, associated stiffeners, supports, etc. The Horn Doubler fits thru the elevator, connecting the upper and lower control assemblies. Had to mark centerlines, sight the lines thru existing holes, then pilot drill #40 holes, then to 30, with final upsizing to 20.

Removed center support in order to fit the doubler angle inside. This connects the horn doubler to the elevator skin. This involved marking the angle of the skin on the angle, trimming to fit, then marking pilot holes 10mm from the edge of the angle. Drilled #40 pilot holes, then, as per plans, clamped the angle in place and drilled with #30 thru the horn doubler. This will be taken to #2 prior to riveting.

Fabricaed upper and lower support angles out of L-angle stock. Cut to length, drilled pilot holes, and cut angles on the ends to not interfere with other fuselage parts. Had to lay-out pilot holes equally spaced. Mounted onto skin next to other control structures and drilled thru the pilot holes into the elevator surface. Repeated for other side of elevator.

Installed trim tab hinge onto elevator; pilot drilled to #40, then updrilled to #30; since it's a trim tab, it need not be taken to #20. Had to trim the hinge a bit on one end; it was too wide and did not clear the elevator skin. Next, slid the trim tab skin over the hinge, and pilot-drilled thru the hinge with #40 into the skin. Up-drilled to #30, final size. More pics on next entry.
