Brief Description:  Finish Tank Install

Finally, some quality airplane time!

Of course, nothing was done last week, since it was EAA Convention time in Oshkosh. Whereas when we left home, it was 109 deg, it was a pleasant 73 when we touched down in MKE. All week, temps were no higher than 85, with some mornings dipping into the high 50's. Good week overall.

And, of course, on our return, the grass is burnt to a crsip. At least I don't have to mow it! And then there's the trim-out work on our living/dining room floor for the baseboards. Hard part is that it's a sunken living room, so existing doorways presented a challenge.

But you're here for airplane news.... Removed the tank; I leak-tested it prior to Convention, but there was still a small amount of "stuff" in the tank. Added some gas and sloshed it around a bit to try and coax the "stuff" to one corner of the tank so I could remove it (by the filler neck). Cleaned the tank to the best of my abilities, then proceeded to install the cork strips along with top, bottom, and sides to prevent the tank from having metal-to-metal contact.

Drilled the rear tank support bracket to the aft spar; did not fasten to allow adjustments. Took a few (several) in-and-outs with the tank to get the cork strips to the desired thickness, then proceeded to finesse the tank-top strips to provide a snug fit against the upper skin. Aligned the tank, installed the filler neck where it would not hang up on the upper skin, and cleco'd the top skin.

I still have to install the inner root upper skin and it's corresponding angle, so cannot rivet at this point; but the tank will hopefully not see the light of day for a long time.
