Brief Description: More Root Nose Skin work
|
|
Arrrrgh.....
If there's a vote tally among Zenith builders of the difficult areas, it's gottta be the root nose skin. Compound curves and all, it just doesn't wanna fit.
Spent beaucoup time fitting, trying again, trying again, trying again, ad nauseum. Finally got a passable result shown in pic 2 I don't think anyone has created a perfect solution using the stock, prepunched, unmodified skin.
Of course, there were so many attemps folding the skin up and over that a stress crack developed. I stop-drilled it, and all appeared ok. Then I *still* had to do several more fittings, and ANOTHER stress crack developed past the stop-drill hole, so I filed that out further. I have word into Zenith and a trusted A&P to see if a) I can leave it as-is, aesthetics be darned or b) if I could rivet a patch over it, or c) if they're really going to push using a new skin.
