Brief Description:  Forward Air Box or FAB and Carpeting/Interior work

06/04/2011

Off over Memorial Day weekend for family obligations. This week I finished with all the carpeting of the X-10 including the paneling. I install the seats and completed the interior and I am pleased with the outcome. (Now, I have to remove everything  ). The X-10 interior is similar to a Piper type aircraft interior.

I almost purchased a rebuild engine this week but I have yet to commit to the purchase. I don’t know to go with a rebuilt zero time or Van’s factory deal. If I decide to keep the X-10 for many years then a rebuilt, zero time engine is the way to go. If I fly off the 40 hours and then sell the X-10, the new factory engine that Van’s offers is the best way to increase the selling value (price) of the aircraft.

I have also been working on the Forward Air Box or FAB as much as possible. The instructions are not as straight forward as the regular plans ,and there are many different variations, from I/O 320, 360 and 540 engine setups. And only one standard kit. But since I will be using a IO-540 type engine you do not have to make the close/open alternate door, at the front of the FAB. But I am creating the alternate pull open, but not push close door at the bottom of the FAB. I guess this is in case of an iced over air filter or perhaps if a bird strike becomes lodged in the FAB intake.

This X-10 project just go’s on, and on, and on ……

Time another 15 hours combining both the interior work and FAB.
