Brief Description:  Spar Box Install and Wing Alignment I

AFTER HAVING DETERMINED WHERE THE RECTANGULAR HOLES FOR THE SPARS SHOULD BE BY MEASURING THE WINGS AS DESCRIBED IN SECTION ONE, I marked the wing roots as described in the build manual, to determine the location for the holes for the bolts to secure the spar box, relative to the rectangular hole and the chord line, and drilled them out.

****************************************************************************************************************
NOTE: Until you have managed to fit the wings and spar bolts and set the angle of incidence on both, it is not necessary to drill the 4 holes in the fusleage for the middle bolt on the end of each spar box half. Ensure everything is lined up and fits together, then you can drill these. That will be at least four holes which will not require "adjustment"!

They line up fairly well with the holes in the spar box. I may have to elongate one hole slightly to get a fit.

All the measurements are dependent upon identifying the leading edge of the wing root and drawing the cord line to the training edge. Distances are measured along and perpendicular to this line.

The leading edge is a point on a curve, be extra careful when identifying where it is or else your distances and perpendicular mesurements will be wrong.

The manual gives measurements in decimals, for eaxmple 1.875 inches. Since most of our rulers show 1/8" or 1/16", the following table may save builders some calculations:

0.125 = 1/8
0.875 = 7/8
0.8125 = 13/16
1.8125 = 1 13/16
2.6875 = 2 11/16
4.0625 = 4 1/16

I don't have a belt sander, but I thought I could easily file the wide area washers for the bottom four holes on each side of the plane so that they do not overlap each other. Then I remember that these holes all need 3 or four spacer washers on the back side between the fuselage and spar box, so I am going
