Brief Description:  Outboard and Inboard Aileron Hinges III

For each wing, I re-checked the position and travel (3.5" up and down at the trailing edge, measured from the trailing edge of the flap) of the aileron and the position of both hinges, which were clamped in place.

I then drilled the two holes for the inner hinge and bolted it in place on the outer flap hinge and removed the clamps holding it in place. I found that the best bolts to use were AN3-5A.

I then rechecked the position and travel of the aileron and the position of the outer hinge.

I then drilled the two holes for the outer hinge and bolted them in each wing. The manual advises to use AN3-7A bolts, but I found that the shank was too long, so I used AN3-5A bolts, which ensured that the nut did not bottom out on the shank.

Generally I understand that due to variations in the thickness of the fiberglass, it may be appropriate to substitute bolts of slightly different length than those suggested in the manual.

I bent the washer on the lower bolt to enable it to fit around the bend to the lower skin. For the "large area washers" in the manual, I used AN970-4.
