Brief Description:  Started wings

The first part of the wing assembly involves putting on parts to the heavy front spars. Later, ribs will be worked and installed, the leading edge fuel tanks built then installed, rest of leading edge built, aileron and flap hardware, and then riveting of the skins. Last will be buildup of ailerons and flaps, then they will be installed. Many additional [projects will include wing tip lighting (strobes and navigation), landing lights in the leading edge, pitot tube, and so on. For today, I installed 62 fuel tank attachment nutplates on each spar - drilled, deburred inside, countersunk outside, then riveted the nutplates using the squeezer. Pic 2 shows the inside the flange, and pic 3 shows the flush outside where the fuel tank skin will overlap. Five hours to do all this, which amounted to a sentence in the instructions. As other builders have noted, Van's backs off the hand holding in the instructions when you reach the wings and onward. It will be very important to keep up the discipline of reading ahead through the instructions, cross check the plans, and read several builder sites in the relevant areas in advance.
