Brief Description:  First flight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today was to be the BIG day! I got up early and looked out and my heart sank. I couldn't see the mail box! I went on out to the air port and pulled the plane out only to be faced with "pea soup". See Image #1. I went on down to FBO and reviewed my flight intentions with the "boys". The fog lifted and we had a beautiful day. So back down to the hangar. I jumped in and turned the key but no joy! The battery was dead. I had been showing off my panel to a few yesterday and this was the result. I opened the oil door and slipped a charger on. Again back down to the FBO. By the time the battery was charged, we began to have a cloud cover. After much debate, I elected to go. The take off was great after a very short run. On climb out, my #2 & 3 cylinder head temps rose to the red line but cooled off when I lowered the nose and throttled back. All the other engine parameters were great. I flew just under a 3,000 ft ceiling, watching the temps, and giving the engine as much power as they would allow. I got to 160 MPH during a short run before pulling back. This is without pants and fairings or really a good run. Then came slow flight and it handled like a charm down to 60MPH, clean. Flying could be HANDS OFF at all speeds!!!!! I guess we got the rigging right! Then it was time for landing. I slicked it in!!!!! In Image #2, you can see the "RV grin". My "buddies" rushed out to greet me and while I was distracted, one poured a cup of oil under the engine. I snatched off the cowl and as I looked around, the laughter started. Those raskals!!!! Nothing could mar a wonderful day, however. I will forgive them later, I think?
