Brief Description:  Factory Tour & Fly with Kerry Again

I've been wanting to get back to the factory and meet with a couple of the engineers/owners. I had a list of questions that made Lee's eyes bug out a little when we sat down and started talking. He has over 8,000 hours in many types of planes, including Seareys, and definitely knows the answers or could quickly hand me off to who did know. So lots of questions answered, they had probably 8-9 Seareys on the floor in various states of build so I could see a lot of details and ask alot of good questions. I took alot of pictures for future reference and got a sneak peak at their electronics shop and their soon released harness kits for avionics. I haven't decided if I'm going to buy theirs or not - I'm sure it will be expensive, but I may buy some of the components through them as then they will come customized for the Searey and I'll have access to their software builds.

We spent quite a bit of time on the floor talking about various parts and options. I met the infamous "Angel" who has built over 50 Seareys in last 10+ years. He does very nice work.

Then it was time to take a spin - since it had been two years since I was even in the Searey. Kerry Richter - the designer and one of the owners of the company took me up for a spin again. Since I'm almost a "real" pilot now, I knew alot more about what was going on and how to control the airplane. But I was very timid and controlled flying the plane, always using careful, slow movements. Kerry let me line up and do a water landing with me at the controls and throttle and it just settled right in to a perfect slope and ever so gently kissed the water - Kerry giving me the smile and the - "that was a very good landing" nod... That helped my confidence alot knowing that I can handle this plane. Then I asked Kerry to show me some fun, and he took me through several maneuvers - power stalls, accelerated stalls, what felt like some kind of weird half inverted turn, emergency descent, and then came in low and fast buzzing the weeds (and alligators!?) ...
